Species for Bacillariophyta flora in the Volga.

Based on electron microscopy investigations of materials from the Volga River a brief description and original microphotoes of 15 new for the Russian flora and 5 - for the Volga taxa of diatom algae are presented.

Review of the fauna of free-living nematodes in the Volga reservoirs.

The information is given on development of free-living nematodes in freshwater bodies of the Volga river basin. 206 valid species were found in the basin; 18 of them were described as new for science. The nematode fauna from the Upper Volga reservoirs: Ucha, Rybinsk, Ivankovo is well investigated; 78,76 and 74 species were found in these reservoir respectively. The highest densities of nematode population of Dorylaimidae, Tobrilidae families were recorded for a littoral zone of water bodies, where a number of nematodes ranges from 30 to 60 thousand specimens and biomass ranges from 0.1 to 0.3 gramme per square metre of surface. The density of nematode population at sites of industrial and domestic sewage reaches one million and more specimens per square meter.

Fine structure of predatory Phyllomitus amylophagus.

The layer of compact glycocalyx covers the cell of predatory marine flagellate Phyllomitus amylophagus. The continues system of microtubules linked by bridges is situated submembrane. Three flagellar roots of 3, 5 and 6-7 microtubules originate from two parallel kinetosomes and are connected by amorphous material. Flagella contain paraxial rods. The nucleus, Golgi apparatus and endoplasmic reticulum are of a usual structure. The vermiform mitochondria contains a lot of small kinetoplasts and discoid cristae. The batteries of rod-like trichocysts occury the anterior end of the cell. There are crystal-like structures in the cytoplasm. The peculiarities of the ultrastructure of considered species confirm that it belongs to the kinetoplastids and has the relation with heterotrophic euglenids.

Daily dynamics of cell division of diatom Asterionella formosa Hass. in natural population.

Monitoring of occurence frequency of pair cells was conducted to study daily dynamics of cell division in natural population of planktonic diatom Asterionella formosa Hass., as one of the main component of freshwater algocenosis. It is established that during the longest photoperiod with the main peak of A. formosa seasonal development the cells division occurs periodically. It is the most active in the light daytime especially in early afternoon hours - 27% of dividing cells.

Bacterioplankton in the Uglich reservoir.

High abundance and activity of bacterioplankton was found in the Uglich reservoir. There is a tendency to increase the bacterial abundance and production. Probably, this is caused by input of allochthonous organic matter, including of anthropogenic origin. These microbiological data show that the Uglich reservoir is a mesotrophic-eutrophic water body.

Bacterioplankton and zooplankton in the different lakes during ice-period.

The complex relationship between bacterioplankton and zooplankton in winter has been found in three stratified lake: 1 - as a result of microbiological processes in methane cycle a stable anaerobic zone restricting a spatial nicke zooplankters is formed in hypolimnion, 2 - owing to mass bacteria concentration in microaerobic zone of methane oxidation the winter population of filtratos is well provided with nutrient and reaches maximum biomass. The importance of microbial methane formation during the ice period as a source of rich in energy organic matter involved in food chain through a bacterioplankton - zooplankton link.

Comparative analysis of macrozoobenthos structure in the Rybinsk reservoir in 1980 and 1990.

The comparative analysis of macrozoobenthos structure is carried out in a deep zone of the Rybinsk reservoir in 1980 and 1990 years. It is established, that during the considered period a level of macrozoobenthos development in Sheksna reach did not authenticaly change, whereas in the other three reaches of the reservoir biomass sufficiently increased. Six species (Isochaetides newaensis, Chironomus plumosus, Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri, Potamothrix moldaviensis, P. hammoniensis, Procladius choreus) account for 73-80 of abundance and 72-90% of biomass of total macrozoobenthos in different reaches.

Nutrients transport in fish intestine.

The modern nutrient transport concepts in fish intestine are considered. The basic transport mechanisms including simple and facilitate diffusion and active transport are described. Adaptation of fish intestine transport system to biotic and abiotic environmental factors are discussed.

Seasonal dynamics of calcium content in plasma, erythrocytes, muscles and gonads in adult roach Rutilus rutilus L.

Seasonal dynamics of calcium contents in plasma, erythrocytes, muscles and gonads of female spawners roach in the Volga reach of the Rybinsk reservoir was registered in 1987, 1988, 1989. The content of calcium in muscle tissue did not depend on a season. The level of calcium in erythrocytes before spawning was reduced to the minimum for a short period. The concentration of calcium in ovaries depends on a stage of gonads maturity. The increase in concentration of calcium in blood plasma of females, during vitellogenesis, was observed in fish only in 1987. The data, showing that the infringement of calcium cycle in females has a negative effect on a quality of sexual products and reproduction of fishes are generalized.

Effect of heavy metals on ultrastructure of immunocompetent cells of spleen and kidney of sturgeon Acipenser baeri Brandt.

During this research the ultrastructure of immunocompetent cells (lymphocytes, plasma cells, macrophages and granulocytes) of young Acipenser baeri Brandt chronically exposed to sublethal concentration of heavy metals (0.015 mg/l Cu 2+ , 0.003 mg/l Hg 2+, 0.03 mg/l Cd 2+) was studied. It was shown, that modification of cells organelles - mitochondriae - occured after a long term exposure of sturgeon to heavy metals. These organelles were swollen, the part of mitochondria cristaes were destroyed. Such changes in mitochondriae indicate deterioration of oxidal phosphorylation processes in the cell that deprives it of the necessary energy and leads to a decreased resistance of fish to different diseases.

Diluter system for biotesting hydrobionts and microcosms in flowing water.

A diluter allowing to mantain concentrations of different compounds in water of aquaria and other tanks is invented. Present device was tested under the field and laboratory conditions. It has shown high reliability during chronic biotesting experiments under field conditions. The diluter does not concede but, taking into the account some parameters, surpasses best foreign analogues. The descriptions of diluter design and its exploitation, as well as peculiarities of its use for microcosm biotesting are given.

Seasonal dynamics of autotrophic picoplankton and heterotrophic bacterioplankton in littoral of the Rybinsk reservoir.

Seasonal dynamics of autotrophic picoplankton (AP) and heterotrophic bacterioplankton (HB) was studied in a nearshore station of the Volga reach of the Rybinsk reservoir. AP number ranges from (4.6·10³) to (1504.1·10³) cells/ml. Maximum abundance was registered in late July. The total number of HB ranges from (4821.5·10³) to (17925.5·10³) cells/ml. Maximum abundance was observed in late August to early September.
